NEET FROM AGE 18 TO 23 AWESOME!!!

Name: Anonymous 2013-11-29 0:10

You're still young enough to not be ashamed of sponging off your parents. Video games are still fun and you're still ignorant to the plebness of TV, films and music. You haven't been completely desensitised to porn yet so rubbing one out is still great and fulfilling. Basically it's heaven on earth.

Being NEET from 23 to 27 is ok. You start to see how all the games you play and shows you watch are just a distraction. Possibly a hide away from the social problems you have. The porn you used to enjoy starts to become boring and ineffective. You find yourself looking for the more hardcore and shameful stuff (tranny porn, bbw, etc...) Your peers all have lives and houses and are making their own families leaving you behind. Shame begins to be felt for the first time. You start to get worried about were your life is leading.

NEET from 27 onwards. You feel the glares of disgust from people as you walk around tesco finding all the marked down food in your tattered sports clothes looking like some pathetic old chav. Porn sucks. Video games suck. Music sucks. TV and films suck. You now realise you were just living vicariously through the characters and not living your own life and making your own memories. Nothing brings you joy any more. Years of isolation has left you emotionally stunted and with no social skills to make friends. You're a teenager stuck in an adults body and everyone can tell. You have no work skills so there is no chance of getting a job. You wouldn't be able to keep one anyway because of said lack of social skills. You have no money so everything you own is old and falling apart. You realise just how short life is and that you have reached your peak so every year that passes you'll get weaker and everything will become harder. You have no money for old age and the lack of exercise and social interaction will surely mean being an old man with poor physical and mental health. You have no hope for the future. Forever a virgin. Kill me.

Just get your shit together, holy hell. I mean, it's not easy, but the sooner you start the better. Get a part-time job. Go to some kind of institution of learning and get some kind of associates degree or certificate so you can get a slightly better job. Maybe even get a bachelors so you can get an even better slightly better job. Try interacting with people here and there. It gets easier the more you do it. Smile occasionally if you want to. Make goals, write them on a piece of paper, look at the paper every day and think about how you will accomplish them, write down plans for each of your goals and follow them. Have no interests? Read some books, get some interests. When you feel like masturbating or otherwise wasting time, read instead. Nonfiction is probably more horizon-expanding than fiction. Join some kind of self-help group. Underearners Anonymous. Chronic Neets Anonymous?  I don't know. Just fucking do something. Once you've gotten a life, sex will come in its own time.

the time periods between your supposed epiphanies are too long. All of that only takes a couple of years from 20 onwards.

With all that freedom, are NEETs really that unhealthy? If you don't have work or school to go to, you can sleep as much as your body seems to require. Without certain social and academic constraints, you're more likely to sleep during the dark hours. Of course late night gaming and the like might counteract that; further study is required.

Then there's the topic of nutrition. First of all, a NEET will very rarely be unable to get a good breakfast at the start of their day, unless there's a shortage of funds. As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Secondly, a NEET will never find it necessary to get a quick and unhealthy meal, either in the form of a snack (for example a bag of chips/crisps), a microwave meal or a meal from a fast-food restaurant. Of course a NEET is free to indulge in any of these as much as they choose, but the point is a NEET has the freedom to choose. They don't have to resort to these meals out of necessity, since you have the time to prepare a proper meal and a kitchen to prepare it in.

As with the other points, physical exercise is also easier when you have all that free time. Even if you don't have the means or motivation to get a gym membership or exercise equipment, you can do a variety of bodyweight exercises. Exercise is supposedly one of the most effective anti-depressants.

Of course all of this hinges on the assumption that you can afford basic living expenses.

I'm not trying to encourage people to become NEETs or telling NEETs to remain NEETs, but there's no reason why a NEET can't be happy and healthy, perhaps even happier and healthier than a non-NEET. If you get tired of your hobbies, would things really be different if you had a job? Do you think you can just outgrow entertainment or hobbies altogether or is it just that you get a sense of guilt for doing nothing but consuming media? Getting depressed about it isn't going to do anyone any good. If anything, you'll just get stuck in a vicious cycle of self-hate and demotivation. Instead, reflect on your privilege of being able to consume said entertainment, ritually thank your peers for supporting your selfish pursuits and continue enjoying it.

What exactly are you missing out on, anyway? Of course academic and professional activity is by definition missing from a NEETs life, and a chance at a romantic relationship is slim if you're not successful, but that's pretty much it. If academic and professional activity is so important to you, then why are you a NEET in the first place? As for the lack of romance, friendship can largely make up for it, and it's easy to find people with the same hobbies or interests as you on the internet. Finding kind people among them might be a little harder. I don't believe internet socialization can completely replace physical companionship though, so I recommend going on walks unless you live in a rough neighborhood, both for indirect socialization and exercise (and vitamin D).

Also, I agree with >>3 in addition to some other alterations.
It's more like this:

Being a NEET from 20-22 is okay.
Being a NEET at 23 is a personal crisis where you either decide to

NEETs are NEETs because they are mentally ill

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-02 5:36

NEETism is not a surprise considering there's a big slump in employment.

Taking a break after school is OK but soon you'll have to get a job, even if it's just a part time job

It's not ok, you should be researching your career options years in advance and go straight to job hunting after graduation.

I came into the world a NEET and I will die a NEET.

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-09 16:58

I'm thinking of doing volunteer work as a way to break my neet curse. Do employers care about such things? Because that would pretty much be my resume. And hopefully it's a way to get some social skills too. The only roadblock I can see is that a lot of the places asking for help are far away from me and/or need me to own a vehicle, which I don't have. I've never gotten a license in the first place. Why is life so hard?
