Have you ever given it a thought why some marketers have a bad name? There are a lot of instances when people would say, “Ah, forget him, he is just pushing his wares.” There are situations where people blankly ignore marketers. It makes you feel ostracized, doesn’t it? After all, all you are doing is earning a living.

But the reason why people have this impression about marketers is not completely unjustified either. Marketers are too pushy. But when it comes to the real goods, when they have got their subscribers or customers or whatever it is they are after, they forget all of that. They are not least concerned about the quality of the product they give to their people. And the word gets around. It doesn’t take time for a bad comment to go round the world. The marketer ends up with a bad name, adding to the general vibe that people have about marketers.

Now consider a good product. Think about any good product you ever purchased, online or offline. Do you think about it the same way? If you are really pleased with that product, you will actually want to know more about that company. You will be eager to know what they will bring out next. You will not brush that aside.

The crux is this - If your product is great, people won’t think you are nauseating! They will actually want to speak with you, learn about your products and your business and even become your customers over and over again.

There is a particular mindset when it comes to business marketing, online or offline. And that is, you have to think about the value of the product you give to your people first. First think whether the product you are giving is really good or not. Think about the money aspect afterward. If your product is indeed good, no one can stop the money from coming in.

The best way to do this is to think whether you would want to buy your own product. Would you buy it for the money stated and still think it’s a good buy? This is a good judging factor to decide the merit of your product. If you think it is a good buy for the money, your customer thinks so and they will not mind buying more from your oeuvre.

Your mindset is most important. Endeavor to give quality. If it takes you additional investment to build a better product, invest it. It will all come back to you. If you skimp on these essential things, your product will be half-baked and you will lose whatever trust you have gained in your buyer market.

You don’t want that. No one wants that.

Nah, I'd go for rape. Vicious anal rape while pushing the product in the face of my "client". That should get some attention

Look your best

A great first impression can give you an edge in sales

An immaculate professional image will inevitably open more doors for you.

LET'S face it: we meet people every day. Therefore it is important to present a good image and dress appropriately, especially in business situations.

Studies have shown that first impressions are made in the first 10 to 30 seconds of visual contact, and 55 per cent of that impression is credited to appearance. Thus projecting a professional image will enhance your prospects in any sales situation.

Here are the three ways to enhance your professional image:

Get the dress code right

In every business and work situation, adhering to the accepted dress code is equivalent to giving your boss, your colleague, your prospect or your client the respect he deserves.

It is important for you to look the part, that is, your image must be aligned with the kind of business image you want to project. Generally, there are about five dress codes in the business arena you need to be aware of: smart casual, business casual, business formal, black tie and white tie.

Find out what the dress code is for each business event you attend, dress accordingly and you can make a great first impression.

Choose flatter styles and colours

Choose clothing in colours that suit your skin tone and in styles that flatter your body shape rather than what is fashionable at the moment. When in doubt, opt for classic styles and avoid loud colours or patterns. Aim for elegance to enhance your professional image.

Is your skin tone warm or cool? Wearing colours that suit you can make you appear more attractive and give your skin a healthy glow. Generally speaking, you have a warm skin undertone if you look better in orange-or gold-coloured clothing. If you look better in pink or silver, you probably belong to the cool skin-toned category.

In a nutshell, warm skin-toned people look better in colours with a yellow base; cool skin-toned people are more suited to colours with a blue base.

Wearing clothes that enhance your body shape can minimise flaws and make you feel more confident. Using the Body Shape theory as a guide, are you an "O", "A", "I", "H", "Y", "T" or "X"?

"Y" is the ideal shape for men, "X" for women. Thus, a rule of thumb will be to select clothing that moves you closer to the desired shape.

Maintain a high standard of personal grooming and hygiene

It is difficult to carry on a conversation with someone who, though well-dressed and poised, has bad breath or body odour. So if you want your professional image to carry through, you should also ensure that your grooming and personal hygiene standards are impeccable.

Using mouth rinses and fresh-breath mints (especially after meals), deodorants and fragrances are just some ways you can ensure you are nice to be around and to talk to.

In addition, men should aim for an oil-free, well-shaved face (leave the designer stubble for weekends). Women should apply light makeup for a finished look - just a little does wonders.

Finally, to look your professional best, invest in a flattering hairstyle. Paying a bit more for a good cut is worth it if you look great from head to toe.

An immaculate professional image will not guarantee a sealed deal, but it does earn you a great first impression. This will inevitably open more doors for you.

Besides, when you feel confident, you are more likely to establish a better rapport with your clients who will in turn be more willing to listen to what you have to offer at every meeting. So work on achieving a professional image that will give you a competitive edge.
