For the past 2 console gens Nintendo has been using unique hardware while the 360 and PS3 have pretty much the same hardware. Even PC isn't as different.

Devs don't want to limit their market as much so they design for the hardware that has the most people using it and then don't bother to put in the effort to even do a decent port. Hopefully the new WiiU Pro controller will help mitigate this.
