Opera is so tiresome.

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-29 0:59

Even I, a formerly enthusiastic Opera user, must admit that this shit is getting old. At times, Opera seems to relish in being behind the times, as in the Opera dev team's refusal to hurry the fuck up and work with HTML5 already.

Other times, Opera seems to enjoy being more obnoxious than a dedicated 4chan tripfag spammer. It is impossible to do any sort of banking, as banks put images and non-essential data behind an AJAX call that is loaded every 5 seconds. Opera likes to javascript:alert() you every single time.

Another pointlessly annoying `security' feature is how Opera insist on telling you, every single time, that you are trying to load a userjs on an SSL enabled site. Damn it you stupid fuck, I get it already.

It all seems to have roots in Opera's identity crisis. Most users of Opera are somewhat familiar with tech and have been using Opera since memory consumption was a huge issue. As a company, they seem to dislike this image more than SciFi channel did. Rather than just call their users neckbeards like the re-branded Syfy channel did, Opera decided to copy all the other browsers in their quest to make the browser so simply a retarded toddler could use it. The result is a mix of simple interface with a powerful engine, that don't always work together.

The Opera userbase resist all these criticisms with a religious fervor. Their captivity is that of a mindbroken rape victim from a cliched hentai manga. Every argument for usability is met with the response `It's for your own good!'. You know what else is for my own good? A better fucking browser.

I can't say that I am done with Opera, but I can say that they are living in the past. Always quick to cry the invention of tabbed browsing and standards, they have long forgotten that their crappy little company in shitty Norway is far too tiny to ever force the web to change for them. Their insistence on petty bullshit is the precise reason that people waited for the other browsers to steal from them rather than use Opera.

Soon, I will abandoned this browser, returning from time to time to check what progress they have attempted. But I feel that the time of Opera has gone, and short of a cataclysmic series of firings, there is no hope for this collection of obnoxious crap on the desktop.

The problem with Opera is that it's trying to be too much, like a swiss army knife. It's a web browser, with a built-in IRC client, mail client, torrent client, FTP client, and if I remember correctly, a media player as well.

It's like a swiss army knife in the sense that it has a lot of features built-in, but none of them are very good.

I can't get 4chanX to run on HTTPS, even with the opera:config thing. I guess I have to use Firefox now. ;___;

I've never been to an opera but I did see the CSO play all of Stravinsky's Petrushka. No dancing, but the music was magnificent. It was a Saturday matinee performance. At that same event the pianist Evgeny Kissin played something or other, I forget what. No, I do remember; it was Grieg. He's going to be back this April, but I feel too poor to go...

Tempted to write a generator for this in PHP. Then I'll put it online and give it a flashy gradient Web app interface just to piss off the elitists.

I am an Opera user, and I always tell people it's the best.

But I have also become disappointed with Opera. Let me tell you OP, HTML5 is the least of your fucking worries. Opera devs have been breaking bits and pieces every new release.

Let me list what they've broken and refuse to fix:

- When you cycle through tabs using right_click + mouse_scroll, Opera will actually think you're in a different tab. So if you close the current tab, you actually close the PREVIOUS tab that you cycled from. This happens ALL THE TIME. It's fucking unbelievable. Sometimes I pre-load big vids on NicoNicoDouga on separate tabs, and when this happens, it closes those tabs and I have to reload the video from the beginning. This is not a rare occurence. It happens so much that I have had to pick up the habit of  scrolling the tab up and down before closing a tab so that I don't close a different tab due to this bullshit bug.

- They FORCED ctrl + left_click to be the hotkey to open a link in a new tab. Before, ctrl + left_click used to be the hotkey for save_image_as. This is 100% bullshit because if the image is linked to JavaScript, stupid ass Opera actually thinks it's a legit link, so it tries to Open the javascript as a link! These types of things are very prevalent in Japanese image site, most notably in Pixiv. Now I cannot use ctrl + left_click to conviniently and easily save images  because the fucking retards at Opera decided they needed to add more fucking mouse hotkeys that open links in a new tab. MIDDLE MOUSE CLICK ALREADY DOES THAT. Jesus fucking Christ, at the very least, it should be an option for those of us who don't want this new bullshit behavior.

Those are my two biggest problems, I'm sure they fucked up something else but I can't remember.

To their credit, Opera devs did fix an issue I was having with the Windows Panel. They finally added a visual aid (bold text) to let you know which tab you are currently viewing.
