What is the required seconds for a hug where it fits perfectly between being too short and the person thinks you're being fake or being too long and the person thinks you're way too attached? The latter happens to me a lot, I always feel a slight push from the person and then I'm like ok stop hugging
Tonight for instance, this girl from school invited me to her show where they were playing music at a bar. And she seemed genuinely excited to see me actually show up and she's the one who went for the hug and I hugged but it felt like a slight "get off me" push and she dismissed it by saying hi and talking to our mutual classmate friend who came with me. And then while I was talking to her, she dropped an anecdote about this guy that she's seeing, and it wasn't related to what we were talking about at all.
And another time I hugged a male friend who we were uniting as a group after not seeing each other in a long time, and he never stopped hugging, so I didn't either because usually its always the other person who ends it first, so we just kept hugging for what felt like a really long time. I was even looking around and making eye contact with my other friends like wtf when should we stop hugging.
Really, how long is the appropriate amount of time? This is why handshakes are better. Kissing women on the cheek is awkward too because it depends on the culture, sometimes you have to do it twice, and some women don't expect you to do so at all, etc. Sigh.
