Communism in East Europe fell because the leaders voluntarily adopted the capitalist and liberal policies of glasnost and perestroika. Communism never failed, the leaders simply sold out.
But if you want to retcon history and believe that Ronald Reagan with space weapons and capitalism defeated "the Evil Empire", then feel free to be wrong.
