During one of my younger-year outings as a gold panner in the Yukon area of Canada, I got roaring drunk with another few panners. Unwisely and obviously alcohol-fueled, I challenged one of the other men to a duel, with pistols, over some slight that I can not recall now for the life of me. Equally inebriated, he accepted. Being surrounded by other men in a similar state, no one stopped us from grabbing our guns, going to a nearby stream (the forest precluding other open areas), and then upon mutual agreement, firing at one another commenced. It was dark, hence hard to see, since the night was cloudy. Being drunker than skunks, no one thought to bring a flashlight. So there we were, blasting away at each other, missing entirely each time, momentarily lighting up the stream between us just enough with each muzzle flash to encourage us to continue. To date, I remain unsure (1) how far away from each other that we were, (2) how long this exchange took place, and finally (3) how much ammo we even had to play with in the first place.
That seems sufficiently manly to you, yes? Sometimes I wonder why I survived my 20s with all the foolishness I indulged in.
