self harming girlfriend

I am in a bit of a tricky situation. My girlfriend is having a hard time dealing with some issues from her past and has recently discovered that the only way she can make herself feel better is through self-harm - more specifically she cutting herself.

I feel so stuck, she refuses to talk about the issues from her past (with me or anyone else) and is beyond any sort of rational conversation about why this is a negative thing to be doing.

As I see it I only have two options: 1) Standby and try to be supportive to help her get through whatever she is dealing with, but in the meantime watch her destroy herself; or 2) Run away now and leave her alone to deal with everything by herself

Both situations suck - I love her so I dont want to be apart from her, but at the same time I struggle to watch and think about what she is doing to herself - especially when she thinks its her only option and there is nothing else that will help.

Has anybody been through a similar situation, and if so how did you deal with it and what was the final outcome?

Cutting won't destroy herself, it's just a form of body modification. There's not much difference between getting a tattoo (the preferred body modification of giant faggots/sluts), or cutting yourself. If tattoos/cuts are a deal breaker to you, leave her, if they aren't, what's the problem? I think cutting scars are hot as fuck on women, especially on the thighs.
