literary word of the day: epistolary

Name: Anonymous 2010-11-26 23:55

I call it a literary word, because unless you are some kind of ass, you won't be using this word in casual conversation.  Epistolary means having to do with epistles.  Oh, and epistles are letters, as in the letters that you write and send to people.  An epistolary novel is a novel of the form where the book written as a set of letters.

Thanks for this. Here's a factoid about letters but a little tangential I'm afraid.

Billet-doux is the French for "love letter"

You are welcome.  It's good to have men of letters aboard the lounge.  (Matthew, you are a lout.)

Sorry guys, I was just trying to give an example of an epistolary post. Actually applying a new word in real context helps me remember it, but I guess I was a bit too colorful. I let everyone down ;_;

OP, I can't wait for the next literary word of the day. This is even better than The Pudding Club!

What are words worth?

Words can make you pay and pay
Four-letter words I cannot say
Panty, toilet, dirty devil
Words are trouble, words are subtle
Words of anger, words of hate
Words over here, words out there
In the air and everywhere
Words of wisdom, words of strife
Words that write the book I like
Words won't find no right solution
To the planet earth's pollution
Say the right word, make a million
Words are like a certain person
Who can't say what they mean
Don't mean what they say

ah, it is the disgrace, the infamy of the transgressor.  "there has always been opprobrium attached to ignorance of grammar" — Charlton Laird

Don't change these.
