So why is such a large portion of the population born with defective eye balls anyway?

Seriously, you'd think evolution would fix this at some point but yeah, why do SOOOOO many people need glasses? And in particular, asians.

Bad eyesight helped ugly people reproduce more easily.

It would actually be a really interesting study to find out why so many people are born with poor vision and why at some point in our evolution the problem wasn't naturally corrected.

Most people aren't born with bad eyes, they just do things to make them worse. Why do you think "nerds" tend to wear glasses more often than normal people? Because they spend more time in front of computer screens while in dark rooms. Such bright light isn't natural or good for one's eyes.

there is plenty of evolution if you look for it.  sexual selection, risk taking with dangerous sports, driving, and drugs, those who don't access prenatal care for whatever reason, religious sects that avoid medical care, food allergies, asthma in response to pollutants, unforeseen response to new chemicals that are ubiquitous now, and so on.
