Brave new world most certainly.  We're amusing ourselves yet nothing we do in this world really matters.  The whole system is geared to the bizaare Hakuna Matata recreational drug and entertainment indusries with rampant pointless consumerism thrown in.  I don't think we're even really living a life so much as marking time before we croak.  Just like BNW.  1984 in a lot of ways is less scary -- they were open about the position of humans in the system -- Obey or BB will get you.  OUr system makes us a buying machine and a childlike entertainment user, and simply kills our spirit.

Political correctness can be argued to be a form of newspeak. Same thing with changing the words of things and their meaning. "Landfill" for dump, "wetlands" for swamps, as two examples.
