What I mean by the "annoying gray bar" is when you click on a video from your subscription list. It's annoying, bulky and dumb. In case anyone is confused by what I meant.

Oh yeah, that bar that has a list of recently added videos on your subscription list. I do like the fact that it has it on autoplay automatically, so that when you're done with one video, it jumps to the next one on the list. But it was fine the way they had it before.

You'll only be able to see it if you have a YouTube account and are subscribed to channels and click new videos they upload and are linked to on the front page. I assume a lot of people at least have one account by now, but even I was reluctant at first to signing up for one (got my first account in 2008).
