self-respect, man, goes a long way.
How does self-respect work? Simple. If you allow to be done to yourself that which you would not want done to yourself because you would not wish to do it to another, you are endorsing the action and are just as guilty as the perpetrator of disrespect. It is your duty as a human being to put a stop to another person's disrespect of you and themselves in order to maintain your self-respect. Without self-respect, you remain an empty hollow shell of a human being devoid of form and understanding. You will become completely and utterly empty...just as you will become post-life. That is nirvana.
