Yeah, well, the last virus that I know of that could actually brick someone's machine was the CIH virus, and that was during the Windows 9x era, which was the dark ages. And ohh, don't even want to think about being reminded of that!
You make it sound so simple, but really there are lots of factors involved than just knowing machine language.
