What am I missing? I am determined to make the ultimate guide for world4ch, to combate snobs. I should change the title to World4ch's post formatting guide....
I know I need to figure out how to make headers reverse and how to get words to appear after the post headers.
If there is any non-snob who knows the secret to these feel free to post it. And any other secrets I've missed out.
But I think this covers the basics. Here's a pastebin for easy copy+paste: http://pastebin.com/B0Ysd3iK

Makes it seem like it's an IRC channel rather than a board. But of course how else would you be able to red text.
>>4 To quote put "> " on a new line, ignore the quotations but do keep the space.everything typed on that line will be quoted
I would probably rephrase that to something like "To quote put "> " on a new line, then type in a space and the text you type or paste in will be quoted".
When I first started posting on world4ch, making proper Shiichan quotes was kind of a pain to figure out how to do. The way you phrased it may still sound confusing to a newcomer.

You are welcome to rephrase it in the pastebin. English is not my first language, I was trying to be colloquial. post link to edited pastebin, this is a collaborative project to allow newcomers to use the BBS to its full potential.

Very good. When I posted my formatting guides, I always included the link to its pastebin since they're going to experiment with bbcode it may help to have the complete bbcode source of the guide available to them and will probably help a newcomer even more. That and will help propagate it further to other newcomers.

Can we change post to poast in the header? As a memento to RedCream?
Name:
Anonymous2010-03-21 9:02
You know this reminds me of that time in /dis/ when someone posted with red text and I then spammed the thread for an hour trying to find the tags for it. I didn't find it but I did discover a whole bunch of tags I didn't already know.
True story.

Also, I was thinking an introductory text that isn't (dare I say, I know don't shoot me for saying) "tl;dr" about world4ch to go along with its bbcode guide. Though, that's a topic for another thread.

Fixed a few things that were bugging me. >>24 "poast" predates RedCream and its usage is commonly associated with the stereotype of an angsty teenager of the nighties, like using 3 instead of e. It might give new visitors bad ideas...
I think I will also write a simple English grammar guide in similar form. Ought to help those with a little trouble in English without being a snobbish grammar Nazi asshole about it.

That would be a nightmare to agree on. I'd be loath to even attempt it. >>25
Here's a great thread on /prog/ that has over 2000 posts trying to hack BBcode: http://dis.4chan.org/read/prog/1 Some interesting stuff like hover effects from combining multi-quotes and spoilers.
Should this include how to format quotes? >>1,7-11 and such.

Please make sure you don't post it every time you spot a new error, just make a thread and link to it. Once the formatting guide is complete it will have its own thread and a link to the grammar thread. Include some general advice on world4ch etiquette too, maybe make a thread like this so everyone can help fine tune it.

I was more fearful of keeping the text at a size where it could not reach "tl;dr" levels. But I guess coming up with a consensus on how the world4ch introduction text should be would probably be a huge pain in the ass as well.
I mean, they're going to have to lurk around to really get a good scope of this place anyway, but having a good introductory text I figured would help those who care enough to desire to know more about the place get off to a good start, ya know?

Well, it would be kept short and concise anyway. I'm not looking for perfect English grammar to be typed on here, but basic shit to be covered like the difference between there/their/they're, your/you're, etc. I don't care too much about capitalizing proper nouns and such like that, though I might add that in as a friendly suggestion.
Actually, thinking about it, it might be better to make the world4ch introductory text into an FAQ instead. Perhaps that would be better. I don't really know though.

I would far prefer a comprehensive guide to English grammar. There is some very interesting little rules and exclusions that would be interesting to learn about. You should think of it as the guide to grammar's equivalent of this formatting guide. Include all non-archaic, non-disputed information you can.
For example:"preëmptive" and "noöne" are both valid spellings of preemptive and no one. Very interesting.

That's true. Problem is I wouldn't want to make it complex. Thing is world4ch is an international place and there are differences between written English language depending upon where one lives in the western world. For example, what's considered correct in American English may be considered incorrect in Australian English. Though basic things like the difference between your/you're seem to be consistent globally.
I guess if one desired to explore into it further, an "unabridged" guide posted on pastebin could be linked from the short concise grammar guide. Not too sure how to go about this though.
>>38
That's a good idea. /lounge/ already has a wiki up, but I was thinking making a serious, non-troll, non-biased world4ch wiki for newcomers (lol non-troll wiki about a section of 4chan, I know). But yeah, it's an idea I've been tinkering with for some time.

Well one could just as simply link to one of the extremely informative grammar guides on the internet; no need to reinvent the wheel. You could work a simple grammar guide into a larger world4ch etiquette guide but otherwise your efforts would be best spent looking through the link in >>30 and finding the secrets mentioned in >>2.
>>45
That's probably a better idea. Making a world4ch etiquette guide seems like it would work better, then maybe I could link to http://vtbsd.net/english/ within it.
>>44
That would definitely be a valuable resource and fun project. If the guy who owns http://tablecat.co.cc still posts here perhaps he would be willing to host a wiki. Not the generic wikipedia one though, http://www.dokuwiki.org/features docuwiki looks interesting.

True. http://moinmo.in/ is one I find interesting as well. Though /prog/ would probably make fun of it since it's coded in FIOC. ( ≖‿≖)

It would be nice if team 4chan gave up the world4ch.org domain since they don't use it anymore. Then a nice front page could be setup for newcomers and maybe even a wiki.world4ch.org sub domain could host the world4ch wiki. And have it redirect to world4ch boards, for example www.world4ch.org/lounge/ would redirect to dis.4chan.org/lounge/ and so on. Of course I am dreaming that that'll ever happen, but it would be nice.
