And why do you think they don't tax lower wage earners the same percent in the first place -- because a fixed percent of a small income makes life tougher compared to the same percent of an income up in the very high (some people manage to make that smaller income multiplied by a million or more) as there are fixed costs associated with being existing (eat, shelter) and with health variable

Richest compared to what? No other country carries the amount of debt that is held from the United States. You're only looking at half the picture. A lot of the wealth in concentrated in segments, whereas when the US was more economically egalitarian (pre-1950s), manufacturing and producing nation, the wealth was much more evenly distributed. People did business and traded with one another, today we really don't have that. Everyone has bought into the falsity of globalization.
