Thanking the bus driver?

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-18 13:34

Do you thank the bus driver? If yes why do you do it? Some argue he's not doing you a favor so you shouldn't.

I have a habit of just thanking people without thinking about it. It's one of those things that can't be said too much, and even if the level of gratitude is almost non-existent, just signifying that you recognize a kindness could make someone's day a little better... Especially if you're driving a bus for a living. I mean jeez, I feel grateful to just get out of town after a shift at the hospital, and yet these guys drive that filth around all day every day.

I usually thank him and ask how his day is. Then I reach down his pants and squeeze his cock gently, before unzipping his pants and placing my mouth on his genitals.

This is considered polite here in France.

Of course this holds up the folk behind you so you need to say sorry to them by giving the same courtesies.

Who the fuck catches a bus? Are you poor?

I remember doing this when I was on vacation in St Tropez
I has such a good-ass time there on the buses.

Thanks without sincerity means nothing.

Doesn't make a difference to the receiving end though, now does it? Even if I say it to the person bagging my groceries, the mailman for hauling up a big box to my door, or the bus driver, it still means something to them after such a taxing deed.

Sure, why not? He might have had a shitty day,and maybe that tiny courtesy may be what keeps him from gunning down the next guy who runs after a bus and tries to get on when technically you shouldn't be able to.

if he goes fast.

one bus driver on my route used to never stop for people in wheelchairs because it took too long to load them. I shook that mans hand every time I got on his bus

Not so.  It serves to maintain and reinforce behaviors and ideals in a culture that values courtesy.

Listen here, jerkface.

Usually if the trip is quite long (more than 30 minutes)

Do you really have to think about it? Has todays society completely lost it's ability to be civil? When I lived in India as a kid (parents were French translators), EVERYBODY thanked everybody. People were just friendly to each other, for no reason. Have we lost the ability to simply say thanks to somebody like your bus driver?

If a guy was punching on a bus driver, I would totally help the bus driver stop getting punched.

So when you finish getting a <service> from someone you don't:

-look them in the eye
-make any effort to change your facial expression
-use a flat/neutral monotone to mumble 'thanks' at no-one particular
-maintain an 'exit strategy' body language
-snatch your change/bought item/bag/ticket etc from them
-walk away like your the most impoverished individual in the world

I've had this type of 'Thanks' delivered to me on innumerable occasions, and my one overriding thought is "Knee Jerk Reaction".

People who do this aren't 'present', they don't mean it, it's just a learned response. There is no thought, no emotion, no feeling and no sincerity.

In this 'style' it's just words and it means nada.

I've heard stories of waitresses that will run after you and hurl the 'tip' you left them at your head if they think that it's not enough/taking the piss/ etc. Same shit goes, brosephs (in my bok, anyway, FWIW)

I always thank the bus driver. The more south you go in England the less likely that is to not happen.

I meant to happen, whoops, stoned.

Don't change these.
