Laptop requires hub PC?

Hei gaiz, my computer's showing all the classic symptoms of aids and I'm worried it's gonna go the same way as Tom Hanks soon. This nerd cannot be without the internet. I have a working wireless router right now which I can use to get several wireless devices online but I'm pretty sure it's got one cable going into the PC. With that said, it still works with the PC's mains switched off.

In short, if my PC dies could I simply just buy a laptop and manage to access the internet via the router straight away? Or does it require a main PC?
