Thinking of moving to the UK

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-02 21:12

How much should I expect to spend for a good used car over there? Over here you cant spend under $5000 and expect something good. So whats the average cost in the uk for a good reliable used car?

Should I get a Vauxhall, fiat, volvo...?

don't. it's shite.

i'd recommend something for about 2k gbp, prob about 7 years old.. maybe something japenese and they tend to be reliable as fuck.. im currently driving an old primera that cost me 500 quid..   vauxhall's are ok, cheap parts if things go wrong.. peugeot also ok,.. volvo's probably a bit more coz of all the "safety" bullshit

I drive a Toyota Yaris, Car of the Year at some point, I've only had to call breakdown out once because I left a charger in the socket once and it wore down the battery, the recovery bloke looked visibly surprised because he said he simply never gets called out to them.

I, myself, couldn't help but feel unsafe behind the wheel in one of those things. I mean, yeah it's great energy wise, but being alongside of a semi-trailer truck on the highway would not be cool, man.

Location ... location .. location

If you're gonna be bimbling around a town/city, something small, fuel efficient and cheap on tax/insurance. They're also useful for those long motorway journeys.

If you're doing longer journeys and more remote driving, then look into a 4-wheel drive - as has previously been mentioned, the snow/ice can be a major problem, and when that all melts, there's floodwater to contend with!
