If I price it at 1 copper, it attracts attention from lots of potential buyers. Especially bottom scanners.

The 11 silver auction that went bad is the exception and not the rule. Almost all of my auctions begun in this way end up selling way above the usual going rate.
That's because people are competitive and will keep overbidding each other FTW.
