Job reference

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-08 10:46

Hmkay, this is kinda urgent.

My mate has put me down as a reference for a job, i can't get hold of him right now, what sort of stuff will they ask me?

The job is in a care home for an old peoples home.
Thx

Just tell them you'll subject the tenants to sexual harassment on a regular basis. Humanoid parasites need love too. That and (natural) laxatives.

All you say is that he did indeed work under you in a care home for an old peoples home. Don't say anything else. You will be liable for slander, (found that out the hard way). If they ask you to elaborate on his work ethic or anything just say "no comment".

That's silly advice from someone who used to have a bad employee, this isn't that case. His friend wants him to lie for him as a reference for a job.
Just say "Yeah, he used to work for me, great bloke, everyone loved him."
Don't mention what line of work it is and hope they lead with something that will tell you as your friend may have put down a different job description for you.

Na, they know he didn't work for me, but he doesn't have much previous work experience (that didn't end bad anyway) I'm just like someone that has known him for a while kind of thing i guess.

Look. >>3 is right. Don't give any opinion one way or the other on his character. Just say you're neutral towards him if they ask you anything. Otherwise, if he doesn't get the job you'll leave yourself open for defamation lawsuits. Mostly they'll just be calling to make sure he has lived in the country under his current name for a long time. Acknowledge his existence and his name but nothing else. Trust me on this.

Stop being such a paranois crybaby. This is obviously in the UK, where it's a different situation. We don't sue over the drop of a hat over here just yet.
