Strange. I didn't even notice that! I guess I kind of feel that way too, because my house was built in 1889 and while modernized here and there (broadband Internet access, digital TV cable, complete lead removal from old pipes, new furnace installed in the 90s, ect.) it still retains most of its older material like lath and plaster walls.
Except for the kitchen and bathroom which has crappy cheaply made drywall (Yuck! And searching through Google found that some people still make walls with lath and plaster even today, though no where near as common as it was in the 1880s).
