Neighbors annoyed by my use of bittorrent

My neighbors got mad at me for downloading stuff on Bittorrent all the time and slowing down the apartment wifi network. We don't have the option of installing cable or dsl so I'm stuck with using their wireless network. What can I do to continue downloading on bittorrent without slowing down the network? I've tried reducing my speeds but it still seems to sap the latency on the network.
