Sup fellow Venus Fly Trap keepers, the last thread went over 1,000 posts so I figured that we could continue here.
Summer's here, the perfect season for your plant. Here are some basic tips:
1. Fly traps need plenty of warmth. Make sure it gets on average 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day, and another 6-8 in a warm area (windowsill, greenhouse). Depending on climate, you may want to put it out during the cooler morning hours.
2. Fly traps are swamp plants, and as such need plenty of water. Avoid impure tap water; instead use rain or distilled.
3. Use only nutrient-free soil, preferably peat moss. The plants get all the nutrients they need from their food.
4. Finally, make sure your plant is in a place where it can catch some nice juicy flies. If you want to attract some towards it, any sweet substance will do (honey, soda, rotten fruit)
Happy fly trap keeping!
