Found an easy way to make moonshine

First I followed this guys guide for making the wash. I took a 2 liter of apple juice, added some sugar and yeast and let it sit for 2 weeks. Ended up with around 8-9% alcohol volume. Then I bought a standard water distiller for around 80 bucks and threw my brew into it.

Out of my 2 liters of homemade cider I managed cook up about half a liter of some 70-80% hard shit. It's all so easy I'm kicking myself for not trying this sooner.

Fuck, I'm awesome.

Depends on how strong you want the alcohol and how much sugar there is in the juice. 1-2 lbs of sugar per gallon will get you started, if there's a brew shop nearby get yourself a hydrometer so you can measure it.

For yeast, 1 teaspoon is enough for a small 1 gallon batch. Helps if you soak it in a bit of warm water for 5-10 minutes to wake it up before adding to the juice. Also, be sure any juice you get doesn't contain preservatives, potassium sorbate is birth control for yeast.

After it's all mixed together you'll want an airlock to let the CO₂ out without letting other crap in, a balloon with a couple pinholes will work.

Finally, be sure to sanitize your equipment otherwise you could end up with things other than the yeast feasting on your juice.

I was watching a PBS special on these hicks living in the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina producing moonshine. There was this old ass guy that must of been born before the great depression happened trying to pass on his moonshine making skills onto to the next generation.

He used a rather strange system of heating pots and plumbing to make the potent stuff. I haven't really read much into home brewing, so I don't know exactly how one would go about making the stuff.
