How to accost the cashier girl?

Hi!

I wonder if you can give me some hints.
There's this girl who works at the local supermarket (it's a smaller one). Sometimes she's the cashier, other times she fills up the shelves. She's not the typical "hot chick", but she's appealing to me, and I think that maybe she's interested in me too.
Once, she was packing out stuff from a cart to the shelves and dropped some cans. With a moment of hesitation I helped her put them back on the shelf.
When she's the cashier, she always greets me (well she greets other customers too, but not all of them), and one time she examined my credit card for long secounds (probably to memorize my name?).
And... yesterday. I had my checkout on the other line, and as I packed my stuff, she turned towards me (while she still had 3 or 4 customers on her line) and smiled widely, then turned back. There were no one else around me, so that smile was definately for me.

Now, what should I do next? I'd like to ask her number but is it appropriate while checking out? I don't want to ruin my chances.

Btw, I'm 26 and I think that she's about 23-25.

Btw, I searched the local community site (something like facebook), and I _think_ I found her. I'm not sure because there's only a few older photos up and she doesn't wear glasses on them (which she does IRL). Is it weird to send her a message?

And... I thought I would ask her out next time for something, but I'll need a good phrase to start with...
