The pancreas secretes "time-particles", or chronotons, into the bloodstream. The interaction of these with the pituitary gland sets up a phosphorylation potential which ultimately affects the rate at which humans absorb time from their surroundings.

I see. That's why I'm absorbing time slower than others: My pituitary gland doesn't work as it should and my chronotons keep building up until they're secreted through my skin, giving me rashes.
