1) A cordless telephone requires electricity. Yes, the phone line "used to" still work when the power went out. It still does, and Verizon isn't ripping you off...at least, not on that. Yes, I know you can't get a dialtone. That's because there's no power to the transmitter to send the dialtone to the handset. No, the phone line is not down. No, this 30-year-old rotary telephone does not have a satellite transceiver in it. It works because the phone line works. No, the cordless phone should not necessarily work just because the corded phone does.
2) (stepmother) Kicking a 22-year-old out of the house: fine. Using excuses like "YOU THROW EVERYTHING OUT OF THE GODDAMN FRIDGE" after I threw out a 2.5-year-old jar of mayonnaise and replaced it, and "HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY TIVO WITHOUT MY PERMISSION YOU SON OF A BITCH" after you disappeared for a week and Verizon wanted me to clear the phone line for five minutes to test for the DSL you ordered: batshit fucking insane. Also, my father is a retired teacher. Not Donald fucking Trump. Stop ruining his credit by filling his house full of shit you don't need and will never use.

By the way, I know your bachelor degree guaranteed you a career and a middle-class life 40 years ago, but times are different now, and mine doesn't. That's why I'm not married/not investing my money/not saving for retirement yet despite having two jobs and a place of my own, not because I'm lazy and wasteful and sitting on an invincibility complex.
