I'm sure the economy will bounce back in a good 15 years from now.  That gives you plenty of time to find abandoned "investment homes" that will litter the land, and squat in them.  FREE LODGING!

ah yes, an opportunity to develop yourself through creative and productive loafing.  I don't mean fat ass on the couch watching televion loafing, I mean doing stuff that you don't get paid for loafing.  take a walk in the woods, get lost, survive the winter, what an adventure
