The real clincher in this is that campbell and rose really aren't married lol campbell made it up to protect rose and raidens son from the patriots.At the end of the game though, raiden is reunited with rose and his son

Also it seems solid snake has been the main weapon of the patriots the entire time. The whole premise of MGS4 is to get snake to realise this and to stop the AI JD. If they stop JD all the other AI's will be destroyed and the patriots will be no more.

But then Third Impact takes place in 2015 and renders it all moot.
