Okay, I know the chances of getting serious replies and advice are slim here but i'll try anyway. After graduating with a major in English last year i've not been able to find a permanent job, and i'm just not doing well, financially. I live in a small town. Should I get a masters degree in something practical so I can get into investment banking or similar (even though my passion is writing)? Should I move to a big city and live paycheck to paycheck working shitkicker jobs while I figure out options? I don't really know what to do.

Think about getting a job as a technical writer. I hear demand is high for them.

Thanks /lounge/ers. I did actually consider investment banking but it's not something you can just drop into.. maybe i'll just take up some shitty job while working on my writing career :(

You should do something that gives you lots of money then you will be able to do stuff
Why did you think you'd need a degree in order to write? Do words glow visually or emit a particular frequency of radiation when written by a holder of a literate degree?
MY partner has an English Degree, aand couldnt get a good job for a long time after graduating. She know works in advertising and loves it.. Maybe?

Advertising can be like a kind of showbiz where you actually have a job instead of like in real showbiz where you are a waiter trying to get into showbiz, so advertising can be a fine way to have a living.

you don't need one but it certainly helped, and i don't regret the education i gained from it.
