Embarrased of being American?

Hear me out before you start flaming, please.

So many negative things have happened with the Bush Administration (the war, his cowboy politics, etc)... and then of course the whole obesity thing -- we're the fattest country on the planet. I mean you could trace some pretty fucked up shit that America has done back to the atomic bomb and slavery.

Anyway, whenever I visit another country and see how they perceive the US... I can't help but feel somewhat ashamed/embarrassed. I mean of course in reality it'd be foolish to accept responsibility for any of those things, personally (I'm not a lazy, fast-food junkie; I didn't vote for Dubya, etc), but it still makes me uneasy about the whole idea of being an American. Sometimes it's like I just wanna' get the fuck out of here.

I want to know if any Americans here share the same sentiment.

No, seriously though, don't say the nuke was fucked up. If someone shit all over you the way Japan did to us, and you had a way to completely ruin them and make them beg for mercy just by sending a plane over there to drop one bomb, you'd probably do it too.
