I would disagree with your statement. The act of taking on a name negates your claim to being anonymous.

I would argue that this holds true for both an individual taking on a pseudonym and a group of people taking on a pseudonym.

Taking on a pseudonym can hide the true identity of an individual or group but the very fact an individual or group can be identified by name means they are no longer anonymous.
