A college student I spoke to

A few days ago I was talking to a person who was going to a university here in the United States, and he mentioned that he was taking some "Middle Eastern Studies" class. I asked him if he knew the difference between Sunni and Shi'a Islam and he did not know. I then asked him if he could name one of the territories formerly controlled by the Ottoman Empire that became League of Nations mandates under British and French administration after World War I and he knew nothing about it. I don't know what he's being taught but I think knowing the difference between the two main denominations of Islam and a major event in the region's history is important if he's going to claim to be an expert on the subject.

Why do I, someone who had bad grades in high school and has never been given an opportunity to attend a university or college know more than someone who got good grades in high school and is attending an expensive university? Because grades and college don't mean shit. It shows you how little you have to know to be called an expert, especially in the United States. It's not what you know that makes you smart but what you have, in this case an academic degree. I hate how the system works. I'm not saying there are no experts but most of the people who claim to be don't really know anything.

I can already see the comebacks coming "lol ur juts mda becuz you didnt gte accepted inot colelge adn I did." First off, you not knowing how to spell yet majoring in English further proves my point. Secondly, I've never even applied to go to an institute for "higher learning" because higher learning is bullshit. I'm happy doing manual labour because I'll always know I help the world more than the guy in my story.

Just because you take a class doesn't mean that you're going to be an expert in the subject. Maybe he's taking the Middle Eastern Studies course to fulfill a requirement for social studies or something. Also, how long has the guy been in the class? A friend of mine didn't start class until Just last week, so two weeks into a class is not very much. Thirdly, maybe the kid is a slacker dumbass who sleeps through his class despite it being his major or whatever. Just because you got into college doesn't mean you're going to work hard. I had a guy drop out after one month in college because he claimed it was too hard, when he really just chose a kind of shitty major and didn't do the work. Finally, if you are happy doing manual labor, then hey, that's great. Go ahead and do what makes you happy. However, higher learning is not bullshit. Its an opportunity to become more specialized in a specific field that you couldn't otherwise become specialized in or even really know about until now. Some people go to liberal arts colleges and learn a wide array of things because it is required of the college, despite the fact that they won't use them again in life. There are a lot of people who claim to be experts, and especially in the scientific fields, they actually are. The United States has a pretty damn good college system. While many high school students fall behind the average Asian or European student, by college they have caught up. There is a reason that foreign students come to American colleges: they're damn good. Usually when someone gets an academic degree, its because they actually know the information. There are shitty party colleges, I'm not denying that, however, there are also a lot of fantastic colleges that you just seem to more or less ignore. Where did this guy go to college? What does he do in his spare time? How much does he study? How often does he go to class? What's his major? What are his grades? Without more information backing up your argument, it kind of sucks balls and we really can't do much other than pick all the little holes in it and exploit them to disprove you. Next time, lets try not to make a bunch of sweeping generalizations; it leaves your case open to easy potshots.
OH SNAP! IS THAT A SEMICOLON? PROPERLY USED? HOT DAMN! FROM A CHEM MAJOR NO LESS! OH SHITS! WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW? HE HAS ABANDONED YOUR ARGUMENT! OH SNAP, MOTHERFUCKER! OH SNAP!

tl;dr version:
Why didn't I realize that no one cares about sandniggers still stuck in a medieval mindset and then "study" them to cruise laid-back through college?
