Khalid discovers recording device in his office

SHAH ALAM: A hidden video-recording device was found in the Selangor Mentri Besar’s office on the 21st floor of the state secretariat building on Tuesday.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said he stumbled upon the device after hearing a beeping noise coming from behind the window drapes in his office.

“I found the camera when I tried to find where the sound came from,” Khalid told a press conference after chairing the weekly exco meeting yesterday.

He also showed the recording device to reporters.

“I heard the noise from the device around 6pm,” said Khalid, adding that he was not sure how long it had been there but there was a recording of him the whole of Tuesday.

“We will get experts to analyse the system and seek the help of police when needed,” he said.

Khalid said he would not lodge a police report yet as he wanted to conduct his own investigations first.

He added that security personnel were inspecting the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

On another matter, Khalid said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was welcome to station its officers in the state’s sand-mining company Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd.

He said the move was in line with the state government’s commitment for a transparent administration.

Khalid said it was also to boost public confidence in the company following recent allegations against the company.

The company, which was set up by the Pakatan Rakyat state government to manage sand-mining activities, has come under fire in recent months over allegations of corruption and pilfering activities.

A construction company had recently filed a suit against the company for invalid termination of a sand mining contract.
