Mental illness

Why is it people in the Bible were allowed to talk to God and have visions but whenever anyone today (except in certain cases) claims those things they throw a label such as schizophrenia and psychosis on him, send him to a institution to "cure" him, and put him on expensive medication?

According to the criteria for certain mental illnesses, and what "reality" is shouldn't every single self-proclaimed prophet, conspiracy theorist, and even authors of horror, science fiction, and fantasy are "withdrawn from reality". Yet only a few random ones get diagnosed.

I understand many of you are sensitive when people bash the mental health system. I mean some of you and some of your friends are getting free checks every month just for saying "I SEE THINGS LOL" to a doctor. Anyway aside from severe retardation most mental illnesses if they exist in the first place can be cured with some corporal punishment.

I believe that the following statement is false
"whenever anyone today (except in certain cases) claims those things they throw a label such as schizophrenia and psychosis on him, send him to a institution to "cure" him, and put him on expensive medication?"

Don't change these.
