It's scary, but it's probably not too bad. Most people don't end up with the disease affecting their entire small or large intestine. I had pancolitis, which affected my entire colon, and additionally, it wasn't sporadic. It covered my entire colon, which is extremely unusual.
They would have better treatment for all of this, but it's an autoimmune disorder, and the funding for research on it is almost nonexistent.
So, my question is whether the blood was bright red or dark red. If it's bright red, then I can tell you more without looking up more information. If it's dark red, then I'll have to look up the IBD board on about.com, because there are some people on there that are pretty knowledgable about IBD in general.
