Is there an art in insulting people?

Dear 4chan,

What's the best possibly way of insulting someone? I know you can swear, tell them to fuck off and shit. But what about the really insulting, even the emotional damaging insults?

I know for one rule you gotta keep calm, and the more the know about them, then more you can use it against them right?
Any good hints and references appreciated.
