Do you have brain injury?

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-25 0:59

How many of you were in an accident and injured your brain and got brain injury?  What do you feel like now different from how like you felt before?  Are there impairments you have in your life today from your brain injury?

i have never had a brain injury, but my state of mind has changed quite drastically

I used to copy down all the names of dinosaurs and their latin translation and i made a list of words in latin when i was about 5 or 6 and i always read science books, i found story books very dull

i have always had the drive to be more in tune with reality, but until recently i have been practically insane, hard to explain..

I went through several phases...

1: Reliance on others phase. I relied on my parents and teachers as a window to reality and I was impressionable, but eager to learn as always. My mom was catholic so i became a devout catholic saying stuff like "let's break the bread like jesus and the disciples" every time i had bread etc..
2: Exploration of own reasonning skills. At the age of around 14 my reasonning skills were pretty primitive, but i first saw need to develop them and apply their fruits... EVen though i was wrong, i had the ability to later realise why i was wrong and explore the intricacies of applying reason, this imporvement is still ongoing..

shall i go on?

They say that at around age 12, your brain starts "pruning" itself.  I remember feeling this.  I didn't know it at the time, but I could feel it...  My "awareness" wasn't as...  Real as it used to be.  It's like I can't pay attention anymore to anything.  Plus my memory isn't nearly as good.  I used to remember everything.  Every single detail of everything that happened to me.  Now, when I try to think back over the day, everything feels...  Floaty.

I know that my previous function will probably never come back.  I really hate the way my brain works now.

That happened to me just recently, and I'm 22!
(or maybe it was the car accident?)

Brain injury is a prerequisite to be a Lounge regular.

I think it'd happened to me during my sophomore year of high school. I remember most occurances of my freshman year and before that. I went to Japan for the first time in ninth grade and remembered every detail of every day vividly and could recall them all for the longest time. But eventually that memory started to fade and when I went back to Japan and went to China I only remember the really stand out things of the trips.

does anyone ever feel as if theyre not part of reality and most of the time your just thinking stuff up in your head. When I was a kid everything seemed more real. I was able to notice the shape, air, sounds around me more clearly.

Now everything is mostly in my head, Even if i try to focus on the stuff around me I get impatient and go back to day dreaming or thinking. Sometimes though I can suddenly return to reality, and what I see around me is clear and I feel alot better than thinking and worrying inside.

I totally know what you're talking about. I wonder if it's like that for everyone, or just people who think alot. Or if it's not that we're thinking too much, but there's something wrong with us.
