My rights as a minor? (Parents)

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-04 22:37

After hearing about a guy who brought his parents to court for theft after they confiscated his PC, I've begun wondering what I can do legally about several issues.

Can my parents legally prohibit me from purchasing a PC?  How about obtaining a driver's license?

What are the legal logistics of my parents controlling the way my time is spent?  (Can they legally prohibit me from playing games on the basis that "I've spent enough time on Nintendo" or "need to get to bed")  How about academics?  Can they demand that I spend a certain amount of time studying, or demand that I be home by a time that would not allow me to participate in extracurricular activities, or demand that I take certain classes that would limit my career choices?

Can my parents legally force me to engage in exercise (in the form of physical activity)?

Do I require my parent's consent to get a job at the age of 16?

How exactly is an oral contract defined, and how does it pertain to me?  Example, they promise a ride and don't give it, what can I do?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide on this issue.

Oh, and yeah, I'm a minor on 4chan, and bringing my parents to court over issues like this would be incredibly hypocritical given the amount of illegal activity that I participate in.  So sue me.

You have no rights.

Can my parents legally prohibit me from purchasing a PC? - Yes.

How about obtaining a driver's license? - Yes.

What are the legal logistics of my parents controlling the way my time is spent (can they legally prohibit me from playing games on the basis that "I've spent enough time on Nintendo" or "need to get to bed")? - They can legally prohibit you fom doing anything so long as it is not an established crime to prevent you from doing so.

Can they demand that I spend a certain amount of time studying,  demand that I be home by a time that would not allow me to participate in extracurricular activities, or demand that I take certain classes that would limit my career choices? - Yes.

Can my parents legally force me to engage in exercise (in the form of physical activity)? - Yes.

Do I require my parent's consent to get a job at the age of 16? - You would require a workers permit, which would require parental consent.

How exactly is an oral contract defined, and how does it pertain to me? - Oral Contract n : An agreement that is not in writing and is not signed by the parties but is a real existing contract that lacks only the formal requirement of a memorandum to render it enforceable in litigation.  Extended: No contract between a minor and an adult is valid, nor can one be enforced legally.  A minor cannot enter in any form of a contract; oral, written or otherwise.
