Why Don't You Believe In God?

Hi,

I am a Christian, and I was just wondering why the non-believers on this board don't believe. Why don't they?

Father says to his son and daughter "There is a poisonous apple on the counter, do not eat it, it will kill you."

Whoever heard of something so ridiculous? Why would any "caring" and "loving" parent leave something lethal for them to eat, even WITH a warning? As a "test"? Okay, let's say they're adults in their ability to reason in comparison to God. Why choose to test them? In order to prove something? Eventually someone would have tried that figurative apple. Then once they do, who pays for it? That person/group only, right? Wrong, Adam and Eve ate it and their children paid.

Does this make sense? "Eat this apple and everyone who you give birth to will be defective and suffer and die." What's the meaning behind something so cruel?

If you say it's not cruel and we could just as easily eat poison nowadays and suffer the consequences, then who PUT this poison there in the first place?

TL;DR version No matter how you look at it, God punished his creations and all their children. No matter what on earth a person does to you you don't make their children suffer so much for it. Add in the question about why animals suffer as well since they have nothing to do with our choices as humans.
