'Avatars' are used by lots of sites, mainly to show difference between themselves. 4chan doesn't have them, because it's anonymous. Which means you can be a total cocksucker and get away with it. Whereas if you do it on non-anymous sites, you'll get bitched at, and you'll be known as the assfuck who posted the retarded post.

The kind that Gaia uses is known as a Dynamic Avatar. Gaia wasn't the first with Dynamic Avatars, but it was simply the most popular. Like Yahoo's Web Directory.
Gaia is a social network with dynamic avatars, adding a bit of a gaming element to it. These kinds of sites have caught on recently though, good examples being IMVU, Awol Now, Habbo, etc.

I'll admit, Gaia is sort of easy, the last "raid" was basically me and one other guy. They freaked out at cat gore.
/b/ is too apathetic to properly organise a raid, but if they did Gaia at least shut down for a bit.
Me again, I "organised" the raid. I'll admit, it was shoddily done, but it was more difficult than I previously thought to get a raid going on /b/. I thought /b/ was all up for raids, but first thread got baleeted and I was banned, lots of proxies are either banned or give you a "No file selected" when you try and post a picture.
So doing it over a long period alone was going to take a shit load of proxies.
But whatever, it worked, I freaked out a bunch of Gaians, they thought it was a full /b/ raid, it amused me for a while.
I'd still love to see a forum closed by 4chan. Even if it's only a subforum.
