Is it normal to have thoughts of murder? Sometimes I’ll just think of ways to kill people and get away with it and fantasize about it… I thought it was harmless until I read about the killer “son of sam” and that freaked me out and I started thinking shit, what if these fantasies are me going crazy? And I really don’t want to kill anyone, so I started worrying about killing people uncontrollably - I worry about silly things. Am I crazy… is this normal?

I've always associated the day dreams of mass murder to be associated with the unintended rage that has been mistakenly imposed to me throughout my life. I would be mad if I threw a cup at the garbage can and missed. This of course is an irrational reason to kill people over and through my own ways of thinking I sort of realized that. =/
If you agree that murder is wrong and you yourself, on a long-term scale, would not attempt it, not for fear of consequences but for morality reasons alone, then there is nothing abnormal about thinking the way you do.

Thinking about murder desensitizes you when the opportunity arises. If you're the type of person who lacks control in one form or another, it's best to avoid thoughts of murder then. You still have morals based on you "freaking out" about the Son of Sam. So better squash the temptation / thought while you still can.
I think about it sometimes, but just for fun.
Like if I'm at work I might find myself considering how many people I could kill before the police show up. And of course, I find myself wondering witch way would be the best way to do it. Should I do it in a quiet methodical manner, and if so could I do it without leaving evidence? Or would a sudden and violent rampage be better? (probably not). Should anyone be spared? or would I be indiscriminate? What's the best and quickest method for getting the job done? Should I go out quietly or put up a fight?
sometimes it's just interesting to think about.

i think a lot of people think about it.
It's somewhat normal, but i wouldn't consider it healthy. try to get your mind off of it if you think that you think about it too much
