Sometime last year myself and my wife decided that it'd be pretty cheap to use our landlords Internet, he offered hookups to his router in exchange that we pay 50% of the cost of its use. This was cool, and we did so. We called and cancelled our Internet subscription(Ontera Canada, who we'd been with for 6 years.) They told us that we'd need to return the modem, or pay 400 for it, pay the final month of our Internet and then pay a 150 dollar disconnection fee. We said lol, returned the modem and didn't reply to them about the 200 extra dollars.
Every 2 months we'd get a letter from them. "You owe us money, we'd like it.", we ignored them. 6 months after, they sent the request to the credit beuro, who promptly began sending us MONTHLY letters. "You owe them money, the want it, we'll fucking ruin your credit if you don't pay up."
We ignored them. It's not that we're doing it out of spite, its that our household income is $1,000, and 900 of it goes out on bills. You probably don't know what its like feeding two adults on 100 dollars a month, but it's hard.
One month ago, they claimed that if we didn't pay up, they were going to barge into our house and remove an item of their chosing which was valued at $200. Shitstorm scared, I contacted them, apologised for the long delay and told them we'd begin paying them $20 a month to try and clear this up. Hanging up the phone, I forgot that I had no cheques. I ordered my cheques, but they take about 2 weeks to come. This friday I got a letter saying that if we didn't contact them in 3 days, they'd be filling action against us, and prosecuting us for failing to pay our bills.
Basically, what I'm asking is how deep can this shit run? This is Canada here, can the collections agency really come to my home and take what little fucking possessions I have left? I'll tell you guys, I have 2 computers, a stove, a fridge and a bed. Everything else including all of our console games, our TV, our sound systems- everything else is gone, pawned off to pay a bill we never had money to pay in the first place. I need some help here.
