why are we here and what for?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-10 23:24

This may just be the childish identity crisis that many of you will believe it to be, but really it's all that occupies my mind lately.

What are we here for? There has to be more to life than just sitting here on 4chan and whatnot waiting for something to come our way. It's summer, for fucks sake. Are we waisting our time away with people that we believe might be like us because they're as pathetic as us?

I can't help but wonder if my life is really just the waste that it is slowly but steadily becoming. There has to be more to everything, right? Living normally, but not normal as in teenage stereotypes and the 'surreal life.' But normal as in...content with where your life is going and making something of yourself.

Any ideas or comments about this. I'm trying to be serious. A discussion that leads in that direction would be much appreciated.

Maybe there is no why, maybe this is just how the universe turned out and sentience happens to be a part of the universe.

Of course since there is nothing to work with to find out why, there is no point in botherring.

suicide=fail

i don't want to kill myself, i just want a meaning

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-10 23:45

so i'm just supposed to forget about it?

it's not that easy.

There may be a reason how sentience occurs, but I fail to see a point in finding out *why* uless god starts asking me riddles or something.

what if you just want to know because you just don't feel content about living on 4chan and dreaming about living something else?

The purpose of life:

Life exists to serve God.  Or rather, Life IS God.

God believes itself to be perfect.  However God knows everything, therefore incapable of learning.  The inability to learn is imperfection.  Therefore, God separated itself, creating an energy we call "Life", or "Soul".  All creatures have "Life".  The purpose of this is to allow God to experience new sensations and emotions it was not able to when alone, and when the shells the "Life" energy inhabits for a short time die, the souls return to the central mass of God and upload its experience to God, allowing it to Learn and become Perfect.

Honestly, there is a meaning to human existance.  The first is to live.  The second, I will not discuss on the internet due to it being taken incorrectly.  Do the first.  Live.  Leave the house, if you can't, you have a problem that you will have to fix.  Be outside.  Be around other people.  Relationships outside the internet do not just happen, you make them happen.

When you log onto 4Chan do people start posting about you?  Hell no, you have to put yourself out there.  The same is true in real life.  Meet people, if you are still in school, talk to people.  You can still have a social life and be introspective, you can still have a social life and hold on to your morals and values.  Being on 4Chan, that may not have much meaning now, but it will.

The most important thing in life is choosing to live.  If you let your mind and body atrophy, you will not find a meaning to life, the meaning is there, you just have to seek it.

Fuck you, he wasn't saying that he wanted to leave 4Chan, or was even bitching about it.  He was asking for a serious discussion, if you don't like it, then leave the thread you faggot.

You just undermined the entire arguement for your beliefs in God.    God is perfect, learning cannot make him more perfect.  Yes, he knows everything, but his perfection is not in perfect intellect or wisdom, but in perfect mind and spirit.  His thoughts are pure, and his actions reflect thus.

You are not a part of God anymore than the air you breathe is a part of you.  In the end, we are seperate from God, but exist in a world of His creation and under his rules.  The mind exists seperate from God, but the Spirit and Body live under his rules.

This is what makes God perfect, his Mind, Spirit, and Body are in perfect unison, all serving the same person of existance.

This is the perfect ideal, to be as close to God as possible in life, this can only be accomplished by living, loving, and learning.

I guess your philosophy makes sense, but i know for sure that my life is NOT centered around any being that is equivilant to a god. if my life were to be centered around anything, it would be me and my own choices.

>>10
I appreciate your answer very much. I know that nothing will happen unless i get my ass out there, but whenever i'm with people i just...freeze and can't stop thinking about stupid things. i have an inferiority complex or whatever. and when this doesn't happen, it's because i'm with people who just piss me off and make me hate humanity because of their utter stupidity.

That is a hard thing, to learn to accept people's errors, and in turn, to accept one's one errors.

I know that you hold no credence to the Bible being Holy, however, a poignant line that has stood that test of time and become an axiom is:

Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself.

The point is, you must love yourself, accept yourself, enjoy yourself before you can love and accept others.

It comes with practice, to see the world and sift it's meaning from the irrelevant, in the end, you will find that nothing is irrelevant, all has meaning.

It will take a lot of time to reverse a lifetime of self-exclusion from a social environment, but it is possible.

Good Luck with finding the meaning of life, it is a long road, and when you finish, you will have people screaming at you from all sides that what you have done is wrong, and what you believe is wrong.

The truth does not scream, it is very quiet, and when it speaks, only those who are seeking it will hear it.

The thread ended here.

Meaning? What the fuck? To have a meaning you need someone trying to communicate something to you and if god exists and created the universe he created all the logical concepts and meanings there-in, so there is no universal meaning to everything.

"you will have people screaming at you from all sides that what you have done is wrong, and what you believe is wrong."
And you should ignore them all even if their arguments are completely sound and congruent with reality? gb2 Utah fundy.

Completely Sound and congruent with Reality?

No matter what you choose, there will always be someone who says that you are insane or wrong.

Even atheists get this once in a while.

I must say that athiests, agnostics, and basically everyone without a widespread religion get this A LOT. People believe that because you don't have a religion (namely THEIR religion), that you have no morals or common sense. Personally I detest religion. It's just a stupid guide book on how to live your life. I don't want meaning of life to come from somebody elses' demands and dictatorship, especially if there's no proof that my maker even exists.

Name: Astantia 2006-07-11 1:55

See, everyone gets it, it's just a matter of who you are around.

I happen to love my Religion.  It gives me something to set my mind to, something to work towards.

However, I cannot defend it on the internet, there is nothign I can do to witness over the web, I can only hope to help someone else.

I will not argue my religion on the internet, but I will not hide it either. In this "modern" age it is the general concensus that people who have a definite mind about things are not intelligent, but those who are indecisive are heralded as genius.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:02

>>18
from what i know i prefer those who are indecisive because they tend to be more open minded. those who have their mind set on one thing and one thing only tend to be stubborn and argue their point even though many other conclusions can be made that aren't necessarily wrong.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:03

>>16
I fail to see how any of that justifies ignoring legitimate criticism.

Name: Astantia 2006-07-11 2:05

Not open-minded, indecisive.

Those who do not act, but leave the action to others, do not seek, but blindly accept.

These people will spend entire lifetimes not doing a thing for fear that it is the wrong thing.  In truth, when you find yourself in the right place, you will know.  The trick is to find the right place, which means that you must act.

Name: Astantia 2006-07-11 2:06

How do you judge legitimate criticism?

and if acting and thus choosing the wrong way meaning a life of complete nothingness is where you're headed, then that's the way you should live?

it seems that people who say these sort of things expect you just to leap foward and 'seize the day' because that's the only way to live. but if you know that doing such a thing may not really be the right way at this point in time...then is there anything else you have to say?

Name: Astantia 2006-07-11 2:12

>>25

How do people lead a life of nothingness?  It is not by acting, but by not acting that these things happen, where life slips away into nothingness.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:13

Anyone who needs to ask "How do you judge legitimate criticism?" has clearly been distanced from reality for quite a while.

You judge criticism using reasonning your ability to accertain the truth from your experiences which is called your ability to reason, it's very complex and I can't be botherred to type it all out for you because I know you have at least some ability to reason.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:16

Actually, you missed the point:

God believes itself to be all-knowing and perfect while understanding it cannot be perfect without the ability to learn.

God is a paradox in and of itself.

Acting isn't always the right thing. I could act and choose to kill someone, and that would lead me in the complete wrong direction of where i want to be.

You can't act unless you know where you want to go, which bring me back to where this thread began. The maning of life, what one chooses to do with it, and how they learn what they want to make of themselves.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:23

Let me guess, you've judged what I've said to not be legitimate criticism using your faith in religion as a guide since I must have somehow remotely suggested that your religion is false.

Enjoy your bliss!

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:44

why does the meaning of life always seem to end up revolving around religion?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 2:50

religions like god

Then explain why life exists, its meaning, its purpose, and its ultimate destination in a way that both does not involve forces/beings beyond our scientific knowledge and brings a sense of hope for personal and social betterment.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 3:41

i guess what it comes down to is that yes, we are here. yes, we can't explain why. but no, i am not going to subject myself into worshiping some higher power than my own personal being. i will look foward and figure out what i want to do with my life and not why i even have a life. meaning does not mean origin.

plus, there's always the scientific big bang theory.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 3:54

there is no reason. WE'RE ALL JUST RANDOMNESS! CHAOS!

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 4:01

The reason people want to know why they have come to existant is because they think too much. Don't get me wrong, but I think that when people start thinking like this, they say is this all to my life? Will I just die and go into the ground? Will everyone forget about me?

I just think some people just need to accept life as what it is, it isn't something wonderful yet at the same time it can be. Just get the fuck out there and create your own life. Help people out, be there for another person, fall in love, get married have sex. If you really want to, rape a girl, child, kill people.

You should only ask why after having lived a content life and done your fill. Don't ask just because you're feeling emo or just curious.

In a way, it's basically making yourself feel superior, because you have a meaning and everything else doesn't. Of course people turn to religion and all believing that they are there to do God's will.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 4:05

>>40
people really do think too much, but curiosity is a part of humanity and i think one should be entitled to ask if they are curious.

i accept that life isn't the glorious adventure that most would like it to be. but that doesn't keep one from wishing that something amazing can still happen, right? it's only when thouse around us won't cooperate that things get frustrating and you begin wondering why everyone that's so close to you can be content living the average life whereas you still want to get out and find more.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-11 15:48

>>36
In order for life to have meaning there must be someone trying to communicate something to us, since meaning means that there is a definition. God is the usual expectation.

>>40
Actually it is due to the superstitious belief that everything is the doing of a sentient being. There is nothing to suggest there is in the first place so the question is invalid and pointless. It would be like asking "why is there a teapot orbitting pluto? THE MUST BE AN ANSWER, THERE MUST WHOARG!!". It is very stupid, people this stupid must be inferior.
