Would this be acceptable socially?

So I'm liking this girl. We dated once before, but broke up and haven't spoken in a year and a half. Now we are hanging out again and all is good. In fact, things are even better before, except we aren't dating now. Just having fun.

Now, I'm considering asking her out again, but here is the issue:
I am 18, will be turning 19 in October, and will be a Freshmen in college, still local. She is 16 and will be an 11th grader. She doesn't turn 17 until Feburary or so.

Is that to big a difference? When we dated she was 14 and I was 17, which felt kind of dumb at the time.

Also, lemme tell you, she is very hot. I have no pix with me right now, but take my word for it.

Society will shun you and the party van will be your new home.

Yeah, but remember to drop her asap after getting laid

Also, I live in South Carolina, so I guess I oughta look up the laws in my area.

But who said anything about sex?

Of course, if it becomes an option, I suppose I would gladly accept it.

Update: Seems the age of consent in South Carolina is 14 for girls, 16 for males.

Why it is that I don't understand.

So I guess all is fine?

Hell, this is a silly conversation. If you're happy in your relationship with her, then stay at it. Don't pick off her family, and if you do decide to break things off, give her plenty of time and emotional support so that she doesn't suddenly decide that she was 'emotionally damaged'

I always laugh at threads like this (in a good way) because I know a 16 year old girl and we wanna date some day too. We have no problem waiting though. In fact we just talked about the age of consent and all that last night. Our feelings for each other are not going to change, and if one of us ends up with somebody else in the mean time, who cares? We haven't dated yet. We have a deep relationship but that won't be affected by finding someone who's actually the right person for you, and you find that out after dating for a while.

She'll be happy if I meet the right person, and I'll be happy if she does. And that's not likely to happen in a year and a half so what have I got to worry about?

Once you got all that worked out in your head you won't care about 2 or 3 years difference in the eye of the public. Ask her how much she cares about it, and if she cares what her friends think. As time goes on she might say you're worth more than their "opinions."
