Maybe I'm not smart enough to be a geek but if someone has a technical question then I usually answer them nicely, unless I'm having a bad day. The real trick is to stay away from geek forums and programming forums; moderated programming/technical newsgroups tend to be less rude. Or ask a professor.

I used to administer the initial written interview exams at Intel and saw some brilliant people do exceedingly well, but never got the job because they failed horribly on the oral interviews.
If you can't communicate and work with other people, your knowledge is worthless. I remember getting a email from an applicant who requested the whole process be done through AOL Instant Messenger because he was more comfortable typing...
