asking for essential shit

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-12 5:45

tell me, do you think it is reasonable or not for parents to pay for their children's computer and driving lessons while they are in college?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-12 6:17 (sage)

Get a job, bum.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-12 6:24

but.. what about parents taking responsibility for their spawn and supporting them until they get a stable and non fries job? besides, since when were students 'bums'?

i would rather wait until i'm qualified for professional positions instead of taking on some shitkicker job. i am not a bum.

students have always been bums. don't bother going to college unless you want to become a professional bum (sit at a desk and get paid for doing nothing). of course the downside to that is that everyone who works for a living will hate you and want to kill you...

you are a bum, in our eyes, a yuppie, entitlist scum. any anyway why are you going to college without knowing how to drive or use a computer?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-12 13:04

If you haven't had driving lessons yet, you won't need them in college. You don't need a car. Get a bike; bum rides from friends (offering to pay for half the gas on longer trips); use the bus; move closer to school.

You could make an argument for the computer being essential (and a LOT cheaper than a car), but I say that as a computer science student; even I could probably do ok using the school's labs if I really needed to though. You wouldn't be able to visit /b/ (easily) that way, but oh well. I'd bought my own computer before entering college. (My parents offered to buy me a laptop after lugging my desktop everywhere got to be annoying, but I certainly didn't expect it of them, or even ask; you shouldn't either.)
(Your post is ambiguous - if you mean "computer lessons", gtfo, you don't need them.)

It's been said, but get a job. Seriously, at least for the summer. Having any job experience at all, even at some fast food place for minimum wage, will help you when you're out looking for "professional positions", and a month or two of minimum wage could easily buy you a decent computer.

My parents told me that they will pay everything for me until I get my Bachelors degree. I am probably screwed if I drop out or fail.

i meant a computer, not computer lessons. by your logic, you too are entitilist scum for demanding food and clothing from your parents. and i can bet that you did. everyone has at some point.
why on earth shouldn't children ask for things that parents, by their very nature are supposed to provide? i hope you never have children because you'd probably be too stingy to feed them!

Actually I'm an orphan, asshole. But i'll play your game for a second. Yes getting food, clothing, shelter, love, etc is natural, but tell me, why are you asking if it is reasonable or not for parents to pay for their children's computer and driving lessons while they are in college if it for some reason seems obvious to you that they should? I think it's been mentioned before about the difference between essentials and extraneous. It has to do with needs and wants. You don't need computers and driving lessons to survive.

Again why are you asking? Are your parents recinding on their offers? Are you starting to think you're pampered? And why do you need driving lessons?

i need lessons because public transport does not exist here. frankly, people should not ever have children if all they can offer is the bare minimum. i mean what is the point in that? if you have children you ought to make them productive members of society.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:28

>>23
But can they be productive if all they know is to make demands?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:35

>>23
I still don't see why you need lessons. It's not rocket science. Is your dad so busy he can't teach you himself? I learned from video games actually, that and just getting behind they wheel. Your not going to be a nascar driver or something are you?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:38

>>23
I taught myself how to fucking drive. You don't need lessons. Any fucker can drive. Just grab the wheel and gas that shit.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:44

>>24
productive members of society all required resources. end of story.

wreckless.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:49

Yeah seriously, Gran Tourismo and just getting behind the wheel is not going to teach you traffic law.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:51

>>27
The butler been driving you around too long, you just saw something fast and furious, and now you'll get papa to buy you a fancy rice bucket so you can go vroom vroom, but you don't want to look like a moron and crash while still parked AM I RITE?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:52

>>29
RTFM to learn traffic law. I aced my written and driving portions of my driver's exam. No fucking lessons necessary.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 1:55

>>27
But you are not productive.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 2:58

>>30
please. i'm somewhere between working class and middle class.  i'd like to drive so i can stop bumming rides, in what universe is that not a good thing? your bitterness is not becoming.

>>31
RTFM isn't going to teach you how far to turn the wheel when parallel parking you asshat. we have driving instructors for a reason; our parents are not perfect and you are not going to learn from a goddamn videogame. quit being a self righteous faggot.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 3:28

>>33
I never said RTFM will teach how to turn a wheel. 29 was concerned with traffic law, maybe you're not. Whatever the case you don't need to go to cram school to learn the rules of the road. If your parents can drive with out crashing it's good enough. And yes you can learn from a video game. Step on gas it goes. Step on break it stops. Turn the wheel it turns. Same concepts. It's really not much harder than that. As for parallel parking and other "advanced tricks", that's just experience. Are you expecting instructors to teach how to spin on a dime? Not trying to be self righteous here, just realistic.

essential shit?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 4:30

It's obvious that the OP had already made up his mind up about this before posting. He hasn't given any good reasons to back up why he should get all of this unneccesary shit except for "WAAAAAH WAAAAAAH BUT MOMMY I NEED THIS". Conclusion:

Get a job, BUM.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 5:42

I know you're bitter cause you never had real parents and you're broke, but your jealousness isn't going to help that. Infact it make it just worse and makes all your friends go away. Like people have said before you don't have much other choices than getting that job.
