What's the deal with the Da Vinci Code?

Okay, I heard something about a "fact page" that says all such and such material is "accurate." What does that mean? That the movie/book are based on historical facts?

What's the deal? Is the movie presenting any information as fact if it can't be backed up? Why is it causing such a buzz? The reports I read on it just confuse me I guess because I haven't read the book.

True. Doesn't matter how much proof people have of something, they go absolutely freaking nuts over it. Some of the worst tragedies were committed in the name of religion.

What else could make people think that slaughtering and burning people alive was completely sane, justified and good for humanity? It's hard to take away the feelings of guilt over brutal killing unless you create an attitude of extreme prejudice or a "holy calling." Sad how those two things have such similar results.
