Predictions: What year will religion die?

Name: Anony 2006-05-08 23:44

Hello, and good day.

I was just wondering something.... I know that eventually, most people in the world will eventually realize that religion is myth.  Although spirituality not being useless, I believe people will eventually realize that religion is man made, not actually something which is truly literally real.  People will realize that the God they worship is actually an ideal which exists inside of THEM.

What year do you think the majority of the world will come to this conclusion?  My guess is the year 2600.

I think by 2100, a lot more people are going to be asking questions, and realizing that religion is gay.  The 500 years in between...... just time for the MAJORITY of people to give up religion.  We all know it's going to happen.  When do you think religion will die?  Spirituality will never die.... although I think the world "spirituality" will eventually not be such a taboo thing, only accessible to certain enlightened people... but I think spirituality will eventually become another everyday part of life accessible, and practiced by all.

What the hell is the difference between spirituality and religion?

People are fucking stupid because they always believe what others tell them. I'm not against keeping an open mind but it's stupid to be such an idiot. They figure it's okay to believe it too if enough other people do or follow it, what a bunch of tools.

I wish the world was smart enough to move onto a phase of eugenics, and a world where money represents nothing, where if you want something done it becomes so, where religion is properly discarded and where humans respect where they exist. That would mean tearing down cities and roads and such so nature and animals would have a place to exist the way they were meant to.

Religion will die on the day human nature dies.

Those days will probably come too... as long as humanity survives long enough.

>>4
No... don't be thinking religion is eternal.  It's not.

>>2
I suppose one could say that spirituality is ones personal experience with things which seem "divine".  Religion is a bunch of myths and rules to TELL people what is divine.  Spirituality is something within.  Religion is something (God)... somewhere "out there".

That's all well and good. You go about doing that, while the adults take care of living in the real world.

They figure it's okay to believe it too if enough other people do or follow it, what a bunch of tools.

Couldn't you apply this exact same argument to atheism? Perhaps people aren't all idiotic sheep just because they don't agree with you.

You lost all credibility when you categorize non-religion as "atheism".

Oh and adults living in the real world. You mean filthy humans that only care about furthering their own gains at the expense of anything they can step on. Whatever it takes to make a cheap buck amirite? Time is money eh? How dare you tarnish to good name of time. You haven't earned the right to exist filthy human.

This is already happening. Just look at today's youth.

Yes, but I also sense very strong resistance.  I feel that there are still a huge number of people still clinging very strongly to religion.  Also, I sense a rather large movement among young people to revamp religion.... make it cooler so it doesn't seem so gay to young people.  I think this will keep religion in the world for a while longer.

I don't know.  We'll see.  It will be interesting to see how things turn out 20 years from now when my generation is its full power.  It really seems like A LOT of people don't give a damn about ideals of society.  But then again... look at youth from the 60's and 70's.  They didn't give a damn about society either.... yet regular idealistic society is still here and thriving.

The point I was making with >>4 is that it's part of human nature for us to follow religion. Even many athiests agree that religion will always exist in society because it's hardwired into our minds. I wasn't saying that it's eternal (unless you believe that humanity is eternal).

So the point is that whether you like it or not, religion isn't leaving anytime soon.

Or you know the world could erupt in nuclear warfare or there could be a stock market crash and the price of money could drop then like a big chunk of the worlds population that lives in 1st world countries would simmer down.

Then the frontier children would rise to god status amongst those who wish to live and rebuild society.

Then, the cryptoids will emerge from their hiding places. Spring heeled jack and the like will come crawling out of their sanctuaries and feed upon mortal flesh.

Scepticism regarding religion isn't something that is suddenly appearing in today's youth. There have ALWAYS been people who questioned and rejected religion.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-09 20:37

"Spirituality" is just as bad as religion. It is a baseless reason to feel good about yourself.

>>1 FAIL.

Yeah, I know the point you were making is that religion will always be with people.  I don't know why anyone would say that.  It won't be.  It's not "hard wired" in humans.  That retarded.  No it isn't.

>>15
No.  You just don't know what you're talking about, is all.>>12

SO you are saying that because religion/spirituality is carved into our brains that people should be stupid enough to follow all the little beliefs that pop into their brains? "hey look guys, i know there is no god but there is a little monkey that lives in my brain and he controls everyone that i came into contact with."

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-09 23:47

Yes, those are also possibilities.

>>21
I have no idea what you are saying.

Spirituality is just as silly as religion; the difference between the two is really pretty subtle. "Philosophy" is where all the cool people go. The only difference between religion and spirituality is that with religion, you belong to a fixed belief system, and with spirituality, you make it up as you go along.

I don't see either dying in the foreseeable future. If it happens, it'll be after some sort of crazy singularity where we'll all superintelligent cyborgs or something. Which will be sexy, btw. SCIENCE ROCKS!
